Can My Child Continue to Go to School in Dublin if Move to Pleasanton
DUSD Community,
The second week of a new school year is often busy, but under our current circumstances, busy would be an understatement. Our staff continues to burn the candle at both ends in an effort to provide world-class instruction and address the many challenges associated with our current school year.
On Monday, we will launch our free COVID testing for all quarantined students and for staff who are not yet vaccinated or do not wish to share their vaccination status. In particular, easy access to COVID testing will allow quarantined students to return to in-person instruction in as little as five days under a Modified Quarantine .
During Tuesday's Board meeting, our trustees approved the refinancing of the last of the outstanding Measure C capital appreciation bonds which will save Dublin taxpayers over $27,000,000 in debt repayments through the life of the bond. That's fantastic news for our community!
The Board also voted to increase funding for Emerald High School Phase 1 by $115,170,000 for a total budget of $282,170,000. We will be going out to bid on Phase 1 increments 2 and 3 this Fall. Construction should begin in December.
Finally, we continue to move families off the Virtual Learning Academy/Independent Study waitlist and into a remote learning environment. This week, a number of elementary, middle school and high school students were accommodated. If you are still on the waiting list, we ask that you bring your student to their school site for in-person instruction until a spot is made available.
Regards,
Chris D. Funk

DISTRICT NEWS
Refinancing Saves Taxpayers over $27M in Debt Repayments - At Tuesday's Board meeting, our trustees approved the refinancing of the last of the outstanding Measure C capital appreciation bonds; this refinancing will save Dublin taxpayers over $27,000,000 in debt repayments through the life of the bond. This savings is 100% credited to taxpayers; the district receives no direct benefit from these savings. The Board also approved the sale of $116,000,000 of Measure J bonds to support approved projects. Sales of these bonds are slated for September and October.
District Maintains High Credits Rating - The District continues to earn high marks from the credit rating agencies Moody's Investors Service and S&P Global, once again receiving ratings of 'Aa1' and 'AA+' respectively. The ratings reflect the District's strong financial position with healthy reserves and liquidity, large and diverse tax base and strong wealth levels of district residents, a growing student enrollment, the additional revenue stream from the parcel tax, and management's prudent fiscal practices to strengthen the financial position.
COVID Testing Starts August 30, 2021 - Starting on Monday, August 30, the Dublin Unified School District will offer COVID testing at our school sites. Testing will be offered free of charge this semester, regardless of whether or not a child is insured. Implementing student testing provides an additional layer of safety and monitoring for our school community. One additional benefit of this service is that our District will be able to implement a modified quarantine for asymptomatic, unvaccinated students exposed to COVID-19. In short, quarantined students will be able to return to in-person learning faster by providing a negative COVID-19 test result.
COVID Tracker Available - The Dublin Unified School District introduced a COVID-19 Case Tracker. This new resource is available in the 2021-2022 School Year section of the DUSD website ( www.dublinusd.org/2021-2022 ). Starting with the first day of school, DUSD will report all confirmed COVID-19 cases among individuals (student or staff) physically present at district schools and facilities during their infectious period for COVID-19. It also provides the percent of our student/staff population that have tested positive for COVID-19.
FAQs from DUSD Families - We've developed a frequently asked questions page on our website regarding the 2021-22 school year. It can be reviewed at this link. We also encourage all of our families to review our In-Person Learning Update to learn more about our current health and safety protocols.
VLA/Independent Study Request to Return In-Person - Families who are currently enrolled in these programs may submit a request to have their student return to school for in-person instruction. This form can be found on our website here and includes details on how to submit your request.
Now Hiring for Certificated and Classified Positions Across DUSD - We are currently recruiting for a variety of roles in our district including Certificated Guest Teachers, Classified Special Education Instructional Aides, General Education Instructional Aides, and more. If you or anyone you know is interested in applying, please visit our DUSD EdJoin page and use the dropdown menu to select "Certificated" or "Classified" positions. You can also view one of our recruitment flyers here .
Travel Guidance for DUSD Families - Over the summer, we've diligently prepared each of our schools to ensure that we are providing a healthy and safe environment for everyone who steps on campus - but we need your help. Ensuring everyone's wellbeing is a team effort that includes all of us working together to follow public health guidance. With approximately 95 percent of our students returning for in-person learning, following public health guidance is critical to the success of the 2021-2022 school year. Read the full letter here.
Latest Board Meeting Recap Available - The Board Buzz summary for the August 24, 2021 Board Meeting is now available. This has been slightly modified since being sent to the community on August 25, 2021. A complete collection of summaries can be found on the district site at this link . If this digest does not provide the level of detail you are looking for, full videos of all meetings are available at https://www.dublinusd.org/board-archive .
Attention DK and K Families re: Grab and Go Meals - Our District is thrilled to offer meals to our students all year round and since the first day of school, our Child Nutrition Services team has been busier than ever! Since our meals are now being served hot, rather than "heat at home", we must have students proceed through the cafeteria lunch line to receive their food and are unable to accommodate grab and go requests.
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Paid Volunteer Opportunities Available @ DUSD - With the introduction of free meal service to all DUSD students during the 2021-2022 school year, the demand on our Child Nutritional Services team has been tremendous. Volunteers can choose times and locations to accommodate their schedules. Pay starts at $16 per hour.
